What are Chakras?

Chakras are energy centres around our body. The human body has 7 main ones that you will see and hear about most often.

The word “chakra” means “wheel,” and it’s used to describe energy centres in the body that are believed to help keep us balanced and well.

The idea of chakras comes from ancient traditions in India, where people explored the connection between the mind, body, and spirit through practices like yoga and meditation. They believe the body is not just physical, but is also made up of energy that affects how we feel physically, mentally and emotionally.

They start at the base of your spine (ROOT) and are positioned in a straight line along the spine, all the way up to the top of our head (CROWN).

When these “wheels” spin out of balance with each other, they can become blocked, overactive or under-active, resulting in us feeling unwell, either physically or mentally. This could look like disease or illness in the body, anxiety or feeling over emotional.

There are many ways to “align” our chakras, making energy free flowing and balanced within us again. We can meditate, do yoga, breath work or energy healing such as Reiki.

Having your Chakras open and balanced allows PRANA (life force energy) to flow through us freely, making us feel happy and healthy in life.

How Do Crystals Work With Our Chakras?

Each chakra has a different colour because each chakra has a different frequency. The colours correspond with the frequency. Choosing a crystal that matches the chakra colour can support you with your needs and how you want to work with the chosen crystal.

For example, the Root Chakra is red, so a red crystal or darker stones, such as Red Jasper or Black Tourmaline, will be a good pairing to ground and stabilise us and clear this Chakra. Lighter stones such as Clear Quartz or Selenite, have a higher frequency aligning best with the Crown Chakra and promoting spiritual awareness.

There are many choices of Crystals for each Chakra and some crystals can align with multiple chakras. For example Tigers Eye has many properties that could help balance the Root, Sacral and Solar Plexus Chakras. It could even benefit by linking and aligning all 3 of the lower Chakras.

Below are some recommended crystals for each Chakra.

Ways to use Crystals

There are many ways to incorporate crystals into our daily lives and benefit from their energy.

One of the most popular ways is during meditation. You can hold a crystal in your hand, place it on or near your body, or simply sit quietly with it while focusing on your intention. Many people find that working with crystals during meditation helps them feel more grounded, focused, and connected.

You can choose a guided crystal meditation on Youtube or you could simply sit with your Crystal, set your intention, such as " I choose to ground my Root Chakra to feel stable and anchored in my life" or "I am opening my Heart Chakra to unconditional love and compassion for myself".

Either hold the crystal in your hand or place it directly upon your chakra and begin with a few deep, controlled breaths. With each breath, imagine a glowing ball of energy, the same colour as that crystal or chakra, growing brighter and brighter. Imagine the energy of that crystal flowing into your chakra, balancing and clearing any blockages you felt. When you are ready, you can end the meditation by bringing your attention to the present moment then giving thanks to yourself and the crystal for the healing energy. You could choose to carry the crystal with you for the rest of your day and at any moment remind yourself of that energy you felt.

For a longer, fuller healing you could choose to place a crystal upon each chakra and work through each chakra and crystal until you feel aligned and restored, taking as long as you need for each one.

If you are Reiki attuned, crystals can also be infused with Reiki energy. Once charged, you can call upon that Reiki energy whenever you feel you need additional support, comfort, or healing.
